Atheism and The Battle for Freedom

Yeah, I know I am late when it comes to watching movies, but that’s just me. While most people have seen Expelled with Ben Stein, I just saw it two nights ago. I was not really surprised by what I learned, but rather I was confirmed in my assessment of the academy and its agenda. Mr. Stein clearly demonstrated that the argument between Darwinism and Creationism (Intelligent Design) has been closed by those in power- the Darwinists. The arguments has been closed not because Darwinism is full proof in its claims, but rather there is a lot of money and political clout behind the Darwinist movement that has an agenda to wipe our religion. It is more of a moral battle than a scientific. This is just like the global warming debate. Most liberals would have you believe that the debate is over, when it comes to man-made global warming. But it isn’t. There are several scientists who disagree with the theory of man-made global warming, but they risk their careers and reputation to speak out against the Establishment.

What we must see here is that this is all evidence of the coalescing of secular humanism in forming a new world order, that is united in their vitriolic hatred for God and the church.Men like Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens make no apology for their honesty in wanting to see all religion eradicated. And liberal comedien activists like Bill Maher even have made movies about it. The question is, do we as believers help advance the causes of such radical liberals and the secular establishments to rob us of our freedom? What Ben Stein outlined so well is the greater implications of Darwinism. It removes God from the scenario. When God doesn’t exist, man is the center of the evolutionary circle of existence. It then becomes survival of the fittest in a real sense. That was how the mass killings of the Communist and Nazi regimes were influenced. Something called social Darwinism. And while we “God-fearing Americans” reject the tenets of Communism and Nazism, we embraced the foundational doctrine of Darwinism and have seen the slow advancement of such beliefs in our own culture. Ah so many will not recall, that Eugenics was widely accepted by liberals years ago. We forget that the founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger was a strong proponent of Eugenics. As she once said, “The undeniably feeble-minded should, indeed, not only be discouraged but prevented from propagating their kind.”Abortion is not about women’s freedom and it never will be. It is a about controlling “undesirable populations” by those who support such beliefs.

As Christians we must recognize the greater implications of Darwinism and the way the liberal establishment uses it as a fundamental basis of their ideology. As long as our children are continually taught that evolution is a fact and that creationism is a myth, they no longer will have any belief in God. Moral relativism, social Darwinism and statism will paint the future landscape of America and the future voters will vote for it as they were conditioned to in school. Christians will lose their freedom little by little and eventually we will become the primary target of the left. They will demonize evangelicals and blame us for destroying society with our ancient religion (remember Nero?). We may actually be on the path to Armageddon, or we may be just entering another chapter of history where Christians are persecuted again by the spirit of anti-christ.

What can we do? I think 2 Chron.7:14 speaks clearly to this “if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” The church in many ways has contributed to this by having a spirit of spiritual lethargy and complacency which has diminished our witness and influence in the world. Add to that the fact that many Christians are more interested in their sin than God and we have a disaster. If God punished his people in the OT for their apostasy by sending pagan nations like Babylon and Assyria to Israel and Judah, will he spare America? America is a NOT a Christian nation. That is , in the sense of having a special covenant with God like OT Israel. However, our nation and constitution was founded on godly principles found in the bible and acknowledged by god-fearing people. We have made great progress in many respects since the founding of our nation because of our Constitution. (example- the abolition of slavery, women’s rights etc.) But now there is a concerted effort to destroy the Constitution and redefine what is says. If the Darwinian liberals have there way they will do away with our constitution and take away our freedom. Freedom that was paid for with the blood of many Americans to ensure their posterity the liberties that they believed all people have been endowed with by the Creator.

The real issue at stake here is not science but freedom. When those on the right had control of the argument, the left bemoaned suppression and censorship. But now that the left is controlling the argument, there is no room for disagreement. The academic establishment has silenced and intimidated those who dare to think out of the mainstream liberal think-tanks, and because of that education is becoming progressively,no pun intended, more narrow and closed minded. Our freedom is at stake. The left is not interested in real science, but political control, power, and the destruction of religion and freedom. As Ronald Reagen once said,”Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowledged.”  He also said, “”Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same. “
